I, Calvin M. Wolff, repent believing that global warming would be much smaller than it actually is.

My former belief was based on analysis based solely on the Greenhouse Effect.

But EARTH ALBEDO is also a major player.  Earth Albedo is the ratio of sunlight incident on the earth to that reflected back to space.  Earth albedo has been typically 0.3, meaning that 30% of sunlight striking earth is reflected back to space – meaning that the remaining 70% of the sunlight is ABSORBED by earth.  To maintain a constant average global temperature the earth has to return the absorbed solar energy back to space.  This returned energy ultimately is infrared light emitted to space through the atmosphere.  In order to maintain this balance the EARTH’S TEMPERATURE HAS TO RISE!  The GREENHOUSE EFFECT magnifies this effect by RETARDING the rate of energy flow from earth’s surface to space.  Figure 1 blow depicts these phenomena.

In the figure above “Long Wave Radiation” means infrared radiation. “Short Wave Radiation” means, in this case, mostly visible radiation, with some ultraviolet and infrared radiation.
